Four distinctions to check in an estimating proposal

Net quantity versus ordering quantity
Net quantity describes measured scope. Ordering quantity may add waste, laps, stock-length selection or package rounding. A useful workbook shows the conversion so a supplier can review it before materials are released.
Allowance versus contingency
An allowance assigns a budget to identified but unresolved scope, such as an unselected finish. Contingency addresses uncertainty under a stated risk basis. Keep them separate to avoid covering the same unknown twice.
Estimate versus submitted bid
An estimate documents expected quantities and costs. A bid adds the contractor's commercial decisions, qualifications and accepted proposal terms. The bidder should review rates, productivity and risk before committing to a selling price.
Revision versus scope change
